I rented a car in London from Advantage on line from Australia. As part of the rental I took out full insurance on line from the web site as part of the process. This cost USD 264. On arrival at Europcar I was informed the insurance was not valid and they would not give me a car unless I took out their insurance. Apparently the insurance I had was for Canadian and American citizens only. I took out the insurance as I had no choice. Allianz Insurance could not refund me and told me to take it up with their USA based company. This proved to be impossible to do as no one picked up the phone.
I will not and will recommend everyone not to use Advantage or CarRentals.com as the site is misleading and in my opinion verging on fraudulent. Allianz Insurance is just as bad and still have my money.

I have rented cars many times through carrentals.com with really good experience. This time, however, it was a nightmare. I was denied the car I rented via carrentals.com by Eurpocars unless I pay additional 20 UK pounds per day. I was able to prove that I had done that before in March 2017 in the UK (I rented the same way in Switzerland recently and never had a problem). I thought that upon returning the car I will have a chance. They simply said that rules have changed. I said that in Switzerland they haven't and I can't believe that they have changed only in UK since it is an European company. I still believe that I should get my money back. I told europecars at Heathrow that I will complain and make it public. Could you please, help me to get my money back? Otherwise I will really have to change my mind about renting through you, which would be a pity. I still would prefer to let all my friends know that carrentals.com is the best!!!
I just rented a car today in Switzerland - they don't make a fuss at all - very kind and helpful. Therefore, I still hope. Please, contact me to get further info and get the money reimbursed ;-)
At the moment I would not recommend this supplier to a freiend - in contrast I wozuld warn them that a lot of additional charges will be applied
