I was very happy to pickup the 12-seater van rental. I had wanted to pickup the van early instead of noon. I called the Budget agency and they obliged. The van was in a good condition and we all had a wonderful experience and not to forget about the low price

Car Rental at Los Angeles Airport (LAX): Everything you need to know

Next time you fly to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), ensure you get to the places you want to see – without waiting for buses and taxis – when you reserve a cheap car rental.

How do I find the cheapest car rental company at the airport?

With a cheap car rental from CarRentals.com, you can see the 'City of Angels' at your own pace without going over the vacation budget. To get the best deal on a rental car, make sure to:

  • Compare different prices before booking;
  • Know how much fuel and mileage you're going to need from your rental car in advance;
  • Reserve early.

How old do I have tobe to rent a car at LAX?

You will need to be 21 years old. Note also that a young-driver surcharge maybe added to the price for drivers under 25 years of age.

What car rental companies are in LA?

You can rent cars for a good price from many big supplier names in Los Angeles; you'll see Hertz, Sixt, and Avis, as well as smaller companies. Check the reviews before you make your reservation.

Where are the car rental companies situated at the airport?

Follow the signage to your terminal's Baggage Claim, collect your bags, and step outside. This is where you will meet the rental car company shuttles, which will take you to your preferred car rental provider within 5 to 15 minutes. While the rental car companies have representatives and kiosks on the airport property, the vehicles are all located on off-site lots. LAX is only 16 miles from downtown Los Angeles, so you'll be on your way to fun in the California sun in no time.

Do I need an insurance for a rental car in LA?

Yes. Your car or credit card insurance may cover car rental, so check with your provider. As a US citizen, you can purchase insurance at the CarRentals.com checkout or from therentalcompany.

What do I need to bring when picking up a rental at the airport?

Bring your driver's license and your credit card. If there are any additional drivers, they will need to show their license, too.

What fuel policy is available at the airport and which one should I get?

Your vehicle will likely come with a full-to-full policy; be sure to fill up the tank before returning the rental to avoid additional fees.

Is it advisable to get a car with unlimited miles in Los Angeles?

If you plan on doing a lot of driving, your best bet is to opt for unlimited mileage. Many suppliers provide this as standard, but check in advance.

Is it possible to hire one-way at Los Angeles Airport?

Yes, but additional fees may apply, so be sure to contact the car rental company in advance to check the cost of picking up and returning the vehicle to different rental locations.

What kind of car should I rent at the airport?

Southern California is a driving state, which means your rental car is your key to getting around. If you want to see more, and have a large travel party, why not grab yourselves an SUV and take it down to Seal Beach, where you can walk on the pier and do some eating and shopping on Main Street. Or, if you're visiting LA with the kids, bring them to Disneyland®, which is located in the city of Anaheim, about 25 miles south of the downtown area.

Returning your car rental and enjoying the airport

When you’re ready to head home, return your rental car to its company. The shuttle will bring you back to LAX terminals. Should you wish to take a more direct route to the airport, you can book a one-way car rental, drop the vehicle off at a location close to your hotel, and then take a taxi to LAX. Additionally, if you’ve rented your vehicle from an off-site agency, you may need to make additional arrangements to get to the tarmac.

When the airport was founded in 1928, it was named Mines Field, and had only one hangar. Today, LAX has nine terminals and is one of the busiest airports in the world, serving millions of passengers and more than 60 airlines. If you have some time to relax before your flight, browse the duty free shops or pick up a book or magazine at one of the newsstands. You may also want to sip a cup of tea, get a cookie for the flight, or enjoy a deli sandwich during your downtime. The airport has also set up several art exhibits throughout the terminals for visitors to admire.
