I rented from Thrifty/Dollar at Edinburgh Airport because your website gave an apparent guarantee that I would get the vehicle I reserved. I was worried about winter driving in Scotland, so I ordered BMW X-3 or equivalent 4WD. It was stormy when I went to pick up the vehicle and the car rental area was crowded. Thrifty clerk Nicola informed me that my reservation had been cancelled by Thrifty (no notice to me), that they had no vehicles in the category I had chosen, and that there were no similar rental vehicles available anywhere at the airport due to the weather (though all rental lots were full of vehicles). She said my only option was a Jaguar F-Pace at more than twice the price I had agreed to (I had already accepted a higher price online than Budget or others quoted, to get the guarantee of the car I wanted). Wanting to proceed with my trip, I agreed to rent the Jaguar. It was an eight-day rental so the EXTRA was more than CAD 1000. The car was fine, we had a good trip, but the overall experience felt like a rip-off. Finally, I returned the car 23 hours ahead of schedule but Thrifty refused even to give me a refund for that day, 1/8 of the total. I came away with the feeling that Thrifty/Dollar felt entitled to any money of mine that they could get their hands on. Fortunately, despite a minute inspection, they could not find any scratches or dents on the car, so at least I didn't have to buy it.
