Customer service was great! Not enough people working the counter! One lady covered Avis and Budget at the JAX airport.

When we got to the desk, the attendant was wearing her mask incorrectly, below her mouth or nose. First Car was NOT in slot and could not find with Key Fob. We returned to the car rental desk and dealt with another agent, also not properly masked. We were told they had no more intermediate cars, just a mini-van. As we were traveling to St Augustine where roads are narrow and parking is hard we preferred to have a smaller car but were told we would have to wait, no idea how long, for that. So we accepted the mini-van option provided. With a new reservation processed and a second set of keys, we walked back to the parking garage to unlock a Chrysler Mini Van and upon opening the door we were immediately assaulted by very strong cigarette smoke odor you could smell thru your mask, and it was dirty inside. We got the attention of a nearby company delivery agent outside and she simply shrugged at us as if to say, so it's dirty, nothing I can do about that. So for a 3rd time we walked back into the terminal, back in line at the Avis desk, waited for a new reservation and 3rd set of keys to be provided. Again no apology or explanation. Our third car we found another VERY unclean car, definite smoke odor as well, mini van windows with kids finger prints all over it. We no longer had time to return to the service counter again (this had taken an extra 25 minutes), so we pulled out our wipes and wiped down all surfaces – dashboard and windows had fingerprints, and removed ketchup packets in the cup holder. We dealt with the smell of smoke – ironic since the car had stickers on the windows indicating a $250 fine for smoking in the car (and we got 2 of them - does that mean you owe us $500). We came to the conclusion* the pungent smell of recent smoke in both cars, is likely one of your employee smoking in the cars while (supposedly) cleaning or moving the car. *At the counter we overheard one of the agents say, we are having a real problem with cigarette smoke in the cars today, that is like the 4th one I have had returned. When we returned the car on Sunday, the check out attendant indicated we’d used 10 gallons of gas as we had indeed forgotten to refuel. We said. sorry we forgot, when she told us it would be $10/gallon we said we’d go fill the car ourselves. She replied, “Sorry you cannot as I already cashed you out in my system. Bur you can take that up with the company.” Note: she was polite and apologetic about it.
