The office in Newton is incredibly incompetent and rude. They were not there when I was scheduled to pick up my car. There was a note on the door saying they would be back in about an hour. I had a conference call scheduled and was expecting to be able to take it in the car. They got back just before my call and I got the car. They did no pre-check of the car with me just handed me the keys. When I got the car it was a mess - covered in bird droppings and barely cleaned. I complained and Greg said it would take 20 minutes to get it cleaned. I placed this reservation over 3 weeks before the pick up and they can't either be in the office or have a car adequately cleaned? I asked if I could be reimbursed and he said I could bring it back with out filling it up. When I cleaned the car - I noticed the passenger side of the car was covered in little nicks of chipped paint. Could not see these before because the car was so dirty. I was afraid that I would be charged for it so wanted to speak so someone when I returned the car. When I went to return he car - again no one in the office and a note with a number to call - no one answered on the number. There were no instructions on how to drop off if no one was there. I was lucky that one of the custodians saw me and informed me there was a drop box at the front desk. If it were't for him I could still be waiting. I left the car and hoped I wasn't going to be charged for the nicks on the car. It took Emily over 3 hours to call me back. When I spoke with her - the first thing she asked me was - did I want to keep the car for an extra day? So just to review - she received a call from a customer saying there is no one in your office, I have to leave because I have to catch my flight (and am returning it as scheduled), there is damage to the car and I need help. She take 3 hours to return this call and the first thing she says is I am not even competent enough to know you have already returned the car. Sorry but that is pathetic. This was with out a doubt the absolute worse car rental experience I have ever had. Hertz corporate should consider closing down this office or finding people who have even a remotely professional work ethic in the office.
