My reserved vehicle 7+ passenger van was not available for my golf trip with 4 players. Was given only vehicle a Ford Fiesta. HD to return to the airport next day to pick up a 5 passenger van. Still not enough space and made for a miserable trip around Scotland over 8 days.

Arrived at airport after 14hrs of travel with 4 kids, waited one hour before getting to the top of the queue to be told the vehicle I had reserved two months in advance was unavailable. They had no cars suitable for a family of 6. When asked how I was supposed to get my tired kids to our accommodation the desk agent shrugged. This was beyond upsetting. We were basically told there were no options and to go away. Finally someone from Avis Prestige offered a larger vehicle. We had no option but to accept a vehicle 1000 GBP MORE expensive than our original booking. This caused us significant financial turmoil but we had no choice. We will NEVER rent with Avis again.

However, had to wait awhile because of the small sized airport and minimal car rental companies available. Also charged for roadside service although it wasn’t discussed with rental company associate. I did get it removed from the bill, however, the final total was more than that when I reserved the car and I didn’t get a receipt for the final charges.
