Disastrous..al arrived at 22h at the counter, we are quietly told that our category is no longer "available" and that the only possible vehicle is far lower range (small 4x4 while we are 4 with our luggage and we want a minimum comfort ..) .. at identical price !! No recourse, the reception staff whistle in front of my annoyance, and remain unmoved. Or rather offer me to cancel my reservation if I am not happy ... while knowing very well that at 10 p.m. with a road trip that starts the next day customers will not take this risk ... vehicle supplied tiny, no shock absorber, cigarette holes on the seats, small engine therefore forced to roll in 1st in the climbs..if you know certain roads and tracks in Costa rica you will understand ... short big scam, sassy staff, deplorable vehicle..i specifies that we We are seasoned travelers and have often rented vehicles around the world. The scam seems regular because we met another couple during our trip who underwent the exact same process (reserved vehicle supposedly broken down, downgrading without financial compensation ..) with the same service provider !! To flee..

I booked my res through carrentals.com. There were many other cheaper options but I wanted something reliable with national recognition. I was quoted $678.72 to pay at counter. Unfortunately when I got to the counter and was pushed to buy the insurance which I don't accept - I have full coverage with my credit card. I was then told it was the law to have it in Costa Rica and was charged $1002.00 for my rental. I was in a foreign country and needed a car so there really wasn't anything I could do. I don't think it's OK to be quoted a price and then get nailed for another $300 at the counter when you don't have many options.

Due to a delay of 6 h 00 in takeoff from Paris CDG, we could not take the vehicle as agreed on December 12 at 19 h 00! Taxi to go from the airport to a place of accommodation for the night in San José and return the following day by taxi from accommodation to airport to take the vehicle! Numerous exchanges by email, with AutoEscape agency and rental company (for fear that the vehicle is no longer available, re-rented by agency, as suggested by an interlocutor)! Following a collision on December 24, 2019 around 8:15 p.m. (a few hundred meters from the Quepos agency), we could not reach any privileged interlocutor, designated by the agency! The next day, December 25, we made all the declarations by email, to all the interlocutors that we could find! When we returned the vehicle on December 31, we had to pay $ 550 in advance (claimed by the opposing driver) on the $ 1,200 deposit! The $ 650 will be taken in the coming days. We had no description of the damage and repair costs (2 or 3 scratches on the bottom of the rear bumper) of our rental vehicle! We are awaiting the document and reimbursement of these $ 1,200 in accordance with the standard insurance contract taken out when booking through AutoEscape! The experience could have been nice without this body incident.
