I purchased the collision coverage policy CarRental.com recommended at the time of my rental (Allianz insurance). CarRental.com noted on the reservation that Europecar would not know about this policy and would try to sell me their own policy. But what was not mentioned is that not only would they not know about this policy, but that they would refuse to honor any policy besides their own. So because Europcar demanded I purchase one of their policy options for between $30 and $55 per day extra, I refused to accept the car from them.
Either Europcar was dishonest (they do accept third party insurance and were just trying to scam me) or they don't accept this insurance, in which case CarRentals.com should know this information and disclose at the time of booking. Either way, I'm very disappointed in this experience and was forced to make last minute alternative plans. Not what I was hoping for after just having arrived in a foreign country.
