Our experience with Avis has been a nightmare. Picking up the rental was relevantly uneventful given the overall experience, even though it took almost an hour with a less than friendly counter staff upon arrival for pickup. Dropping off, well that is where this experience takes a turn for the worse. We had a change in travel plans due to weather which had us leaving a day early. So we called the local Avis store to let them know we would be returning the car a day early and asked if we could drop it off at the local private airport. The local Avis representative said it would not be a problem and pulled our contract to have the car picked up. Almost a week later we get a credit card change from Avis, when I called to inquire they claimed the car had not yet been returned. After multiple attempts of calling the local Avis store never getting picked up and routed to call center, I called the local private airport to confirm the car was still sitting in their parking lot. This still has not been resolved after being on the phone with Avis now for over an hour. Meanwhile their SUV sits with a fuel tank of gas in the private airport and I can't get a hold of anyone in the local Avis store. What a nightmare!
