We arrived at the Budget desk on time from our flight to be advised by the woman working that there were no more automatic cars and there was nothing she could do. As we stood there fretting about what to do next, the woman at the desk then grabbed her handbag and locked up the kiosk in front of us with a patronising smile and took herself home. Due to our itinerary requiring a car, we ended up having to take a car from a competitor at a premium (Over 5x price we booked for). Personally, I would never use Budget anywhere again based on this experience, or frankly Car Rentals either, which didn't make clear the risk of this happening at time of booking (assuming that they are aware of the possibility that cars can run out before collection). Especially when in Cancun compared to other destinations, you literally have your absolute pick of every car rental supplier.

I like Budget....but their folks in Mexico are hit and miss. This time I bought insurance at the carrentals.com but when I arrived in Mexico they claim that THART insurance does not cover liability for the other car in case of accident....I could only NOT get the extra coverage if I had a $2000 USD deposit! Com'on people! Who wants to put a hold of $2000 USD (not pesos) on a credit card while on vacation? Pretty bad but I wonder if Carrentals or Budget even knows this. Additionally the car had all sorts of physical damages they wanted me to ignore. So I did but after 3 hours of listening to a piece of under -the-car plastic making flapping noises I had to return the car and get another one. UGH.....very frustrating.
