We rented a car with Budget at Cancun Airport. The car was horrible! It was really beat up, the interior was sticky (GROSS), they gave us enough gas to basically get out of the parking lot before the light came on, and the car was difficult to start the whole time we had it. The staff spoke quietly to try to get you to agree to things that you didnt want. (extra insurance, etc)

The overall experience was good, the employees compensated for cars poorly maintained.

The pickup was very convcenient and friendly. I was greeted at the airport and then driven to the off-site location for pickup. Once I checked-in, the rep from Budget tried the typical upsell which I declined. Then he mentioned that I authorities requested Basic Insurance and he never provided the breakdown for total cost. He basically multplied the initial rental price by 5x!!!! After I questioned him about this, he said he could get a better price, but I wasn´t up for a debate. So I went to the posted priced (nicelly hidden by the entrance door) and showed him the price for insurance was $298 mexican pesos/day. He was trying to charge me $20usd/day (around $450 pesos!!!). After I complained he said the posted prices were not up-to-date which was false. Finally, after 20 minutes of hagling he relented and gave me the final price based on the posted prices and was still trying to convince me he was doing me a favor!!! All rental car companies in Mexico (Hertz, Budget, Avis, Enterprise, Payless, etc) are the same. So beware!
