My experience with Budget was okay, but definitely could have been better. I booked a SUV and when I got to the rental car center to pick up the vehicle the process was pretty easy, friendly staff. When I got to my vehicle, I couldn’t get inside I opened the door and the smell of weed coming from the vehicle was ridiculous. There was no way anyone could drive that car unless they smoke weed also or just enjoy the smell of weed. I couldn’t even get in. I went back and told the employee that I can’t even get into the vehicle I’m not paying $300 to deal with that smell. He said they were all out of vehicles and the only option I had was to take a minivan. First of all, I didn’t want a minivan I didn’t book a minivan, there was no reason for me to have walked away with a minivan. Second of all, the minivans door was broken it wouldn’t close all the way no matter how much you tried closing it or putting the windows up it wouldn’t properly close. I decided to deal with it and take the minivan. Budget needs to do a better job making sure that their cars are clean and ready for the next customer clearly in this case they were not and this was not okay. Especially since I had a reservation.

I can’t give them an excellent review only cause the vehicle wasn’t completely to my liking. Service was great, vehicle presentation was great but it was unbearably smoky. I’ve worked at a dealership for about 4 yrs so I know how they can temporarily disguise the smell of cigarette smoke. So once I got on the road the smell really stood out specially when I turned the A/C on. It made it a very uncomfortable ride in the beginning. But I was able to bare it cause I had no choice. I’m not a smoker myself so you can imagine my inconvenience.

The Budget Employee who checked me in was professional, fast, and friendly. I had a great check in experience. Unfortunately, in a time of Covid concerns, the car had not been cleaned or filled up with gas. Fortunately, I was travel with cleaning wipes so I could wipe down steering wheel which turned the wipes brown. I did not notice the gas until I had already left the lot and so I had to turn around and go back.
