My experience was not enjoyable. I made the reservation many weeks in advance and when I got to the counter to pick up my VAN. The employee said did Avis call you? No I replied. All Avis’ vans are recalled. No van for you. WHAT!!!!! We are moving long distance and we must have a van. Will never use Avis. Also he said it had been cleared. NO. It was filthy. Inside and out. Disgusting! We had to wash it twice and scrub and disinfect the whole inside.

The car I got was nice with only a little over 30,000 on it but it smelled of cigarettes. I call it in and was told to report it to emergency roadside service-for the record.

Avis car rental at South Bend airport was the worst car rental experience I ever had. Nobody was at the counter when I arrived. I waited a long time. The sign said the employee was washing cars. It was a lie! When I finally found someone to give me a car, the car was not only damaged severely in the driver's rear as if it was in a recent accident, it was also so dirty we had to wash it just so I could see out the windshield to drive it. The steering wheel was greasy and my guess covered with Afro sheen. There was a smell of smoke and burnt marks in the fabric. It was so bad we checked under the seats for drugs and the trunk for a dead body. Thankfully I took pictures of the damaged car while it was still sitting in the AVIS parking lot; otherwise, they would have blamed me for it. Honestly, it felt like a well thought out plan to screw over the customer. There is some shady business going on there. I'm pretty convinced the person behind the counter is using the vehicle for his own personal use. I will never go back there again.
