I was charged ~ 10 CAD for returning the car late (31 min). That was completely unnecesserary and the rule of 29 grace period should be clear at the begining

Thankfully, this experience only cost me one travel day and an extra afternoon of headache — but it's not a cost everyone can afford to bear while travelling. I showed up to pick up my rental car and the local office said they had no record of my reservation. Called the Hertz central office, and they *did* have a record of it, but there were no cars available at this location — or at any other location in this major metropolitan area. So: confirmed reservations are useless. Hertz eventually did right by me (sort of). On the following day, at the big airport location (predictably 40 minutes out of town and hard to get to without — wait for it — a car), I got a rental car and an upgrade. But not without pointing out (5 times; I counted) that they wanted to supply me with a rental car at a new rate, not the advertised rate of my original confirmation. (There was about a $100 difference.) A word to the wise: don't take car rental deals at face value. If you get a good deal online, call the actual branch a day or two ahead of time to make sure they know you're actually going to show up, and expect the car you reserved. Context clues from my experience suggest the small city branch may have rented out my confirmed vehicle to someone else altogether (pocketing the +$100 difference between my reservation rate and the current market rate), and just hoped I wouldn't show up. I've had this happen twice before, both times in inner cities. Never at an airport. It's simply messed up. I'd hate to be in that situation if I had *absolutely* been relying on that confirmed reservation for that day. Wouldn't you?

I couldn't leave my car at the rental place and I had to park it in the streets for a temporary parking valid only for three days, which was very inconvenient as I rented the car for 5 days. I was late to work and I also had to make another trip for my friend to help me drive my car back home. I will never rent from this place anymore. Enterprise has way better. service.

I reserved a car and received a Jeep. Not very comfortable for highway driving. I could have gotten another car for a lot more money. I don't think I will deal with them again, not at Montreal Airport anyway.

There is no better way to see everything Montreal has to offer than by getting behind the wheel of your Hertz rental car. Stop spending your vacation waiting on the bus, or wasting money here and there with ride-shares or taxis. Having your own ride allows you to go to the areas you want to see the most, when you want. Make your upcoming trip to Canada even more enjoyable with a Hertz rental car.

Whatever you have planned in Montreal, if you want to get the most from your trip to the city, having your own set of wheels is a must.

What you need to know for the road

How do I get the best rates on a Montreal Hertz rental car?

We try to get you the lowest rates, whether you book. However, booking well ahead of your visit can help you save even more. Be sure to read the mileage policy and keeping it to one driver will reduce your expense.

Do I need to bring anything special when I get my car in Montreal?

Make sure to carry with you credit card, as well as your driver's license.

What's Montreal's minimum age to rent a car?

Hertz's minimum age to rent a car in Montreal is 20. Some rentals, especially higher category vehicles, may have an added fee if you are under 25. Make sure to review Hertz's policies to find out if there is an additional cost before you book.

What kind of Hertz rental car should I get for my trip to Montreal?

That all depends on your needs and what activities you want to do in Montreal. Economy or compact cars are easier to park and ideal for short drives. If you are traveling with family or friends, then a mid-size car or SUV will have enough room for all of you and provide a more comfortable ride. Those looking for a dash of extravagance on their Montreal vacation can choose a higher-end model like a Cadillac or Audi or similar.

Do I need insurance when I rent a car in Canada?

In Canada you do need to have insurance before you rent a car from Hertz. Many major credit cards (Discover, American Express, Visa and MasterCard) usually cover your car rental. However, many of them have prohibitions, such as not covering large vehicles, like premium models or some SUVs. Be sure to call your credit card company and find out what kind of coverage is offered before you head to Montreal. Additionally, as a U.S. citizen, you can add on Collision Damage Coverage with CarRentals.com at checkout.

Do I need to pay a deposit when I book my Hertz car rental?

Hertz requires a deposit when you reserve your rental. Hertz will block the deposit on your credit once you book your car for your trip. Please be aware that the deposit can vary greatly depending on the model and make of the vehicle.

What is the fuel policy on my Hertz car rental?

At CarRentals.com, we suggest a full tank policy. You receive the vehicle with full tank, and you should bring it back it filled up. To avoid any added expenses, it is best to fill up your tank before you return the car to Hertz.

Do I need unlimited miles when I rent a car in Montreal?

Montreal definitely has its charms, but you may want to hit the road again after you've checked off all the activities in Montreal.

Does Hertz offer one-way rentals in Montreal?

Hertz offers one-way rentals in most cases. You may find it more convenient to return your rental car at a different location. Be aware there is typically an additional fee when you pick one-way.

Reserve your ride today!

With so much to do and see in Montreal, having the keys to your own car lets you explore at your own pace. When you're ready to see more of Canada, you can drive wherever you like, without having to spend time waiting for the bus or wave down a taxi.

Before you head out of town, book your Hertz Montreal car rental and take off to all the must-do activities at your own pace. Book with CarRentals.com and cruise the highway in Montreal, Canada.
