Hanyu is impressive, but you don’t need to spend all your time there! Get out and explore the surrounding area. Yulchon-myeon is an excellent place to start. You’ll find it just 3 miles away.

Pack the trunk with a hamper of delicious food and drinks and make your way out to one of the beautiful beaches near Hanyu. Some of the nicest places to stop for a seaside picnic are:

• Unchon Beach Park (12 miles away).
• Manseongni Black Sand Beach (13 miles away).

Situated 15 miles from Hanyu, Yeosu International Pavilion is a fantastic place to go for a business conference. After a tiring day of mingling and getting to know new people, you’ll be able to hop behind the wheel of your rental car and drive out to a nearby café or go for a relaxing spin around the area.

Hanyu is a little way out of central Suncheon, so it’s likely you’ll be doing a fair amount of driving. If you want to use Hanyu as a base from which to discover the city, go for a smaller car. There’s nothing like a mini for maneuvering into those tight parking spaces. Alternatively, if you’re heading away from the bright lights and traffic, reserve something with a larger engine and more room to move. Not many travelers regret spending that little bit extra on a premium or a full-size car.

You’ll be motoring along the right-hand side of the road in Hanyu. Even though the conditions may be similar to home, it’s wise to drive more cautiously on roads that are unfamiliar.

One of the great things about visiting a smaller city like Suncheon is less traffic — and you won’t find a lot of it in the neighborhood of Hanyu. However, you may still come across busier road conditions as locals make their way to and from work.

Nabbing a parking space in Hanyu won’t be too challenging. Of course, it can depend on the time and place — you may find it tricky parking in the very center during peak periods.

The speed limits in Hanyu are similar to the rest of Suncheon, ranging from 30km/h to 120km/h. For the safety of both drivers and pedestrians, a maximum speed limit of 30km/h applies to residential areas.

In most cases, your chosen rental car company will bill the amount of the fine to your credit card. Alternatively, the company may share your contact details with the relevant local agency so they can issue a fine to you directly.

Seat belts have to be worn in Suncheon. Having said that, this rule may differ for certain vehicles, such as those used by public transportation networks.

It’s illegal to use your cell phone while cruising in your car around Hanyu, and you may even be charged a fine for simply handling your phone when you’re in control of a vehicle. That being said, the use of hands-free or Bluetooth functions is permitted, as long as you keep your attention on the road.

In Hanyu, it’s a punishable offence to drive with a BAC (blood alcohol content) above 0.03%. If you’re in the mood for a drink or two, leave your car behind.

Road rules in Hanyu allow drivers at a red light to turn into the lane nearer to them, without waiting for a green signal. Before turning, the car must fully stop and the driver must make sure that the way is clear before continuing on.
