Very disappointed with the upkeep of thrifty’s cars. I rented the base model car and had to pay more to get a car that looked presentable to drive to a wedding. I would consider myself a humble person but, when I saw the car that was pulled out for me I was very disappointed and disgusted with the look of the car. It looked like the car had been running in rally races in Jamaica. The amount of dents, scraps and cracks was embarrassing for the poor gentleman clear the car to leave. if thrifty’s wants to charge these types of rates then the cars need to look the part. I would only recommend this company because the staff is nice.

They made pick up torment, made it difficult not to take their insurance. I had to call credit card company and request a lot of stuff. $2000 deposit - preposterous. One other rental agency was $200 so $2000 is excess, I am sure this inconveniences a lot of other people and they have to take thrifty insurance. The customer ahead of us was unlucky he had to take the insurance because they did not accept his credit card letter. Worse location - Montego bay. The cars are poorly maintained which was confirmed by an employee. Got a flat tire and I put the donut on then the donut got flat after driving 1 km. Had to take a bus with the tire to a tire shop because they made it clear tires are my responsibility. The car jack was too big its clear it was not stock. It was crammed so tight in the jack location I almost broke my finger and damage the car trying to pry it out. The Jack was so hard to use, could hardly turn the handle. The cheapest of the cheap. No road side assistance either. I was suppose to pick up another car for another week. They tried to give me the same car but i would have rather walk so I took 3 taxis to get home and decided to rent from somewhere else after the weekend.

What you need to know before you go

How do I get a Montego Bay Thrifty car rental at a great rate?

CarRentals.com always tries to get you the best rates, no matter when you book. However, booking well ahead of your visit can help you save even more. Make sure to check the mileage policy and don't add an extra driver to avoid any surprise fees.

Do I need to bring anything special when I get my rental car in Montego Bay?

You will need to present your driver's license and a credit card in your name.

What's Montego Bay's minimum age to rent a car?

Most suppliers in Montego Bay require that you at least be 21 years old to rent a car. Take time to go over Thrifty's policy, as there could be added fees if you are under 25 in most cases or for higher category vehicles in particular.

What kind of Thrifty rental car should I get for my trip to Montego Bay?

That all depends on your needs and what you'll be doing when you visit Montego Bay. Compact or economy vehicles are great for short commutes and are easier to park. If you are traveling with family or friends, then a sedan or SUV is going to have more room and be a more comfortable ride. Those looking for a dash of extravagance on their vacation can choose the premium category for a car like an Audi A4 or Cadillac XTS or similar.

Do I need insurance when I rent a car in Jamaica?

Many countries require driver's insurance. You may be able to buy interim coverage through Thrifty. Otherwise, as a United States citizen, you can also add on Collision Damage Coverage through CarRentals.com at checkout. Although many of the major card issuers, like Visa or American Express, give some coverage, there are usually restrictions. For instance, you may not be covered if you book a luxury or larger vehicle. Make sure to check Thrifty's policy before you decide.

Does Thrifty require a deposit at the time of booking my rental car?

Thrifty, like many other rental car agencies, requires a deposit upon reservation. The sum can vary based on the size of the car. Make sure you have enough on your credit card to cover the deposit.

What is the fuel policy on my Thrifty car rental?

Thrifty and most other rental car suppliers provide you a full tank of gas. We recommend bringing the car back with a full tank of gas. If you want to keep your expenses lower, it is best to find a gas station before you return the car to Thrifty.

Why should I get unlimited miles?

Montego Bay definitely has its charms, but you may want to take to the road again after you've checked off all the activities here.

Can I get a one-way rental from Thrifty?

Thrifty and most other suppliers typically offer one-way drop-off. If you elect one-way drop, there is typically an added charge.
