The experience with pickup was perfectly fine. Driving the car was enjoyable too. However, there's an unmentioned safety feature which prevents the car from locking after parked but before you're away from the vehicle. I didn't know this and my bag was stolen the day before my flight. I'm now working to find a way back home.
Related to this, calling the national customer service line for Avis in order to change my drop-off location was awful. As my passport is missing, there's no reason to drive to the airport. John on customer service was condescending, impatient, and uncaring. I sent feedback, but their response was fixated on a little question and not the bigger picture about John's behavior. I've asked to escalate to a supervisor.
To be clear, the in-person experiences with Avis Brighton and Avis Battle Creek were excellent.
