My experience with Hertz was fantastic. The level of service provided by their team was exceptional. When I arrived they didn't have the small SUV I reserved available, due to mechanical issues, not their fault. I was moving my daughter into college in NY and the only thing they had left was a Silverado, but the idea of navigating the narrow streets of NY in a Silverado and finding parallel parking for it in Brooklyn instantly added to my stress level. It was not what I reserved. The young woman I was working with and her manager worked hard to get me into a car. They had one being serviced and was nearly complete, not too far away. The young woman drove me in her personal car to pick up the vehicle to avoid me having to wait even longer for someone to go and pick it up. I did wait quite a long time to get into the car, about 3 hours, but they made up for it by awarding me 1 day at no charge as a result of the wait time. They were incredibly kind and communicative through the process. Something that was out of their control and they did their level best to meet the reservation successfully. I would absolutely recommend Hertz, particularly this location in Park Slope.

DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM THIS PLACE unless you like to wait and wait and wait some more. I had a reservation for 9 am and showed up at 8:50 am only to find a huge line outside their garage. It took more than an hour of standing in line outside in the sun before I was given a car. The person who took me to the car explained that the boss prioritized the platinum members so us regular people had to wait even longer in line than we should have. Now that the boss was out the employees could let the rest of us get cars too. The car I got was not the intermediate 4 door car I had booked but a huge van with 7 seats. The explanation I got was that they had only 3 cars left and if there had been 3 people in front of me in line I wouldn't have gotten a car. Are you kidding me???
It was too late for me to book somewhere else so I didn't have a choice but to accept this huge car, an hour after I was supposed to have left.
Coming back was no different. I showed up at 8 am, an hour before my time was up. There was a line of cars going around the block, waiting to return the cars. This effectively blocked one lane going around the corner and I waited 40 minutes until a woman knocked on the window and said I could leave the car and come back at noon. They wouldn't charge me for that, she said. Why do I need to come back at noon, I said. She said she needed to fill out the paperwork. Why can't you do it now, I said. She didn't respond but said I was welcome to wait. A while later a guy told me to drive around the corner. There was an open parking there. The woman from before would show me where, he said. I drove up but the woman was nowhere to be seen. I found a spot to park the car anyway and saw that the woman was busy explaining to the police why they were blocking traffic around the block. Eventually she came up to my car, looked at my papers and noted the milage and gas. Apparently this is the part she couldn't do last time we spoke and if I had left I would have had to come back at noon just to watch her do it. This took her less than 20 seconds.
How can you run a business like this? If you don't have enough cars you shouldn't let people book them. Overbooking, lack of information and poor customer service are the keywords here. This place is clearly mismanaged and I don't understand how Hertz can let this continue.

Although it's close to my house, I'll go out to the airport next time. I waited an hour in line to pick up my reserved rental. I've rented during Covid from other agencies and while you have to wait outside, you get served more quickly. The clerk who brought out the car was not wearing gloves and the car had obviously not been cleaned well. Also the back cover over the storage area was broken. Funky car overall.
