When I got to the rental place he was about to put me in a vehicle and then he realized that the dates were different when I made this reservation and he said he didn’t have any vehicles available but he didn’t make sense cause he was just about to give me a vehicle long story short I had to wait three hours to get into a vehicle but before that I had called him he put me on hold and I decided just to head that why he was outside smoking a cigarette with no customers and he still had me on hold talk about good customer service right Then he tells me that he had no vehicles yet that he would call me but yet then again I’m on the other phone with customer service and they’re telling me that they did have a vehicle available at that location so I put the guy on the phone pretty much told him to put me in a vehicle he wasn’t too happy about that

We've answered the most frequently asked questions about car rentals in Lowell. Find out the dos and don'ts of booking a rental car.

How do I get a bargain car rental in Lowell?

CarRentals.com makes it a breeze to get budget-friendly rates. Simply type in your travel dates and scroll down the variety of rental companies, select the top rental locations, and find the best packages Lowell has to offer. You can also:

  • Compare and contrast the rates for a few suppliers on the type of car you want

  • Educate yourself on any cost for fuel policy, additional drivers, and mileage limits. This way you can make sure you know the true cost before you book
  • Determine what car you'll need for your vacation. Don't rent more car than you need

Even a little rental car know-how can go a long way to getting you the most savings.

What rental companies have outlets in Lowell?

From budget-friendly brands like Economy and Budget to global names like Enterprise and Hertz, CarRentals.com has some of the best brands in the business. Look through the reviews to help you figure out which is best for you.

What types and makes of rental cars are on offer in Lowell?

That depends on your needs and what you'll be doing when you visit Lowell. If you're having trouble picking the right car, be sure to look over the chart below. We have compared the most popular categories for you:

What's the age requirement to rent a car in Lowell?

Typically, to rent a car in Lowell you must be at least 21—the same as it is across the rest of the United States of America. Additionally, many suppliers charge an added fee if you are under 25. Be sure to read over the rental agreement to figure out any additional fees will be before you reserve your rental.

Does Lowell require rental car insurance?

Most countries require driver's insurance. You might be able to buy additional insurance through rental car company for your trip, if you think your insurance won't cover you while traveling through the U.S.A.. Otherwise, as a United States citizen, you can also book Collision Damage Coverage with CarRentals.com at checkout. Although many major card issuers, like American Express or MasterCard, give some coverage, there are usually restrictions. For instance, they may not cover your rental car if you get a luxury or larger vehicle. Make sure to check car rental supplier's policy before you decide.

Are there different fuel policies?

Most suppliers allow you to choose which policy you want. Here is a list of the typical policies.

You will need to find an open gas station near your rental car supplier

What fuel policy do you recommend?

At CarRentals.com, we suggest a full tank policy. You pick up your rental with a full tank, and you should return it filled up. For a cheaper rate, it is best to find a gas station before you bring the car back. Stations near airports or car rental places tend to have higher prices.

Is it worth getting unlimited miles?

If you plan to explore all that Lowell and maybe even the rest of Massachusetts offers, you're going to need unlimited miles. You won't have to worry about extra charges if you decide to drive all over Lowell. Read the fine print to make sure they are actually "unlimited."

Before you leave the lot

Be sure you check a few things prior to leaving the car rental lot on your Lowell adventure. You should:

  • Check out your car and determine if there is any damage or scrapes. Be sure to make note of it on the paperwork, or you may get charged for it
  • Make you have a properly inflated spare tire, lug wrench, and jack in the trunk
  • Familiarize yourself with the car. Adjust the mirrors and seats, and note how to turn on the lights and windshield wipers
  • Get comfortable operating the entertainment and GPS (if available). It's best to limit any unneeded distractions when you are navigating a new area
