Alvis, the Vancouver Airport, Budget Car Rentals Attendant, was very polite & courteous & kind-of helpful throughout our booking process, but to be honest, I felt as though I was fleeced, booking a car through Budget. I was told on arrival that the car which I had thought I had booked online prior to leaving Australia, a Dodge Caravan, for some $850 odd, Budget don't even stock that make or model, & that I was to be given a similar Toyota minivan. Because this alternate vehicle wasn't going to cost me any more money, & I was in a jam, being in a foreign country, with no local contacts, that wasn't too much of a problem, only that these vehicles do not come with built-in Sat Nav... During the booking process, & after a brief discussion of our intended travel plans, it was pointed out to me that the insurance I had arranged & pre-paid for through your online Car Rentals booking, was not suitable, because I am not a Canadian or US citizen & there were several additional cost items which needed to be factored in to our booking. Ultimately, I was told that to be insured & for me to secure a suitable vehicle, I was convinced to rent either a Ford Explorer or another All Wheel Drive vehicle (upgrade). The Ford turned out to be a lovely & very comfortable car, but for me to be able to use this upgraded car, I was FORCED to re-mortgage my house. I went from a pre-booked, under $1,000 rental AND insurance package, to an ALMOST $3,000 car & insurance package (AWD, Snow tires, inter-provincial additional daily rate, etc, etc). At the end of it all, even though the car was pretty good, I was bitterly disappointed with how it all turned out for me, & have shared this account with pretty much everyone who has asked about our trip...

This was the worst customer service experience I ever had. I rented a van for a day and then realized I won't be able to return it in time so I tried to call the extend my reservation. This is when I experienced the most ridiculous and unprofessional customer service. I called the number for the airport location were I picked the car. The operators said they couldn't find my rental and that I should call the location directly, and they gave me the same number I just dialed. This happened two more times. They kept saying they can't find the rental and they can't connect me to the location. One guy actually suggested that I NEED to return the car or face penalties for not doing that. Then I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor simply said they have no control over that location and I need to physically go there to extend the rental. At this point it was very clear they are trying to pressure me to return the car for some reason (overbooked maybe?). It was also clear that they were simply lying about not being able to connect me to the airport location or not being able to find my rental to renew it. Never experienced such childish and unprofessional behavior before. I called their bluff and drove to the airport, where it was obvious from the rudeness of the customer service rep that I he knows exactly who I was and why I was there. Not renting from this location ever again. My advice to management, grow up, be honest and respectful to your customers or find something else to do.
