We needed to rent a spacious car to transport some items from our father who recently died, so we thought we booked such a car with this company. When we arrived at the counter, we were told that the car was not available. The person at the counter tried to give us a small BMW, saying that it was equivalent (even an upgrade) due to its value. We didn't care about the value of the car, but its practicality. Eventually after much discourse we were given a slightly larger Audi, which did not still have enough space. Secondly, we had booked the car in my name, not thinking it was a problem that my husband would be the driver. We were forced to pay about $10 more per day to add my husband as an additional driver, even though I wasn't going to drive at all. The lack of flexibility was irritating. If we booked a car with my name online, why couldn't we just switch the name to my husband's once we went in person to finish completing the paperwork at the counter? The car was already booked, so what was the difference? The company was taking advantage of some picky internal rules to charge us more money.

Scam after scam. Would not let us rent the car without additional coverage. Other companies did not have the car type we needed, so we did not have a choice. We provided proof for our already existing coverage. During drop off I was very glad I had taken pictures, as Sixt tried to put anything on us. Car was not cleaned with many dents and scratches.

Really great overall even to the return staff. Only thing is that the woman at check in didn’t define that there was a 36€ fee if the tank came back below empty. After she specifically said it wasn’t a problem and they would charge by the liter.

On the last day of our rental, our car had a flat tire in Rome. The emergency service was great -- they came and changed the tire within an hour. But now Hertz is trying to charge me 187.50 euros for the flat tire! The car has 57,000 kilometers on it and the tires are worn. They should not be charging me for the flat tire, which is normal wear and tear.

When I picked up the car at the Rome airport the counter agent reviewed the items included in the contract (itemized in Italian). I declined the insurance. I was given a lot of paperwork but not given a copy of the contract. When I received the invoice I saw that I was charged Full Damage Protection. I filed for a refund. Europcar responded by sending a copy of the contract (in Italian) and a copy of the invoice (in English). By comparison, you could see where the insurance had been included on the contract. Europcar stated that because it was on the contract and It is therefore assumed that your signature corresponds to the acceptance of all the information provided that there would be no refund. While my signature is on the contract for particular consents, it turns out that it was not included on the line that I had accepted the general terms and conditions of hire. In any case, I believe this was a deceptive action to collect additional money for the auto rental. Other than that the service was good and the car performed well.

I ordered a vehicle with GPS included. Europcar was not available when I arrived, so gave me a vehicle without GPS + a GPS to put in the vehicle. Except that the GPS did not work when I wanted to use it (no GPS signal). I had to use my cell phone to navigate, and out of package. It is unacceptable. If I do not have a refund, the next one sees I'll go elsewhere
