Obligatory insurance charges were taken, at a cost higher then that of the entire rental fee, more than doubling the actual cost of trental. These cost weren't mentioned in CarRentals.com. Expecting such issues, prior to picking the car I checked Europcar's website, where this fee was also not mentioned.

Europcar hold from my card 700$ on a month, but I take a car on a 1 day. I booked a car with automatic transmisson (Ford Focus wagon) but Europcar give me Reno Kangoo with manual transmission. Fuel+booking+insurance price more than 100$ on a 1 day. I think it is very expensive for Reno Kangoo.....

First experience reserving through Carrentals.com was great. Got a free upgrade. Painless renting, painless return. All worked great. Second experience was directly the opposite. At the same branch. Refused to honor my reservation created through Carrentals.com. Their rental employee was a bit rude and emotional, and refused to proceed with the rental, even though I was at their location to pick up the vehicle. On escalation, the manager outright said that Carrentals.com is not Europcar. He did not have cars, and would not honor the reservation. After a couple of hours, for some reason they changed their tune. Provided me with a vehicle and an upgrade. But the damage was done in terms of a hit to their customer service image in my mind. Overall a mixed experience. Might recommend them for next time but with strong reservations regarding their methods and tactics.
