Upon picking up the rental, we were told there was a credit check required before picking up the vehicle, which caught us off guard as I’ve never ever had to do this when renting cars nor was it mentioned anywhere when making the reservation. After sometime we got it sorted out and left with the car. We really enjoyed the car we rented for our trip but upon returning it, the nightmare began. The agent knew what day and around what time we’d be returning the vehicle, but failed to mention that the location is closed on the weekend and there is no drop box to return the vehicle after hours. He just told us to drop it off when we get back, We spent 3 hours getting the run around by Hertz, being told we’d accrue more charges for this, and that we’d possibly have to drive it 30 miles out of our way to drop it off without being reimbursed the gas we just put in to fill it, or the Uber rides we’d have to take to get home, which is super expensive. We were also told someone could come pick it up from us but we’d be charged for it. 3 hours on hold, talking to random people before we get an agent who told us to just leave the vehicle at the location and return the keys on Monday when it’s open. What was supposed to be a quick drop off after getting back after driving 4 hours home, turned into a giant catastrophe and really soured us on this experience with Hertz. We feel like some sort of compensation for our time and distress is warranted.
