My experience with this supplier was not bad, mainly. Yet there were two points of disappointment. FIRST: the (rather old) Toyota Corolla I received was unable to consume less than 11 litres per 100 kms at 110 km/h, which was painful. SECOND: apart from severe scratches on one of the wheels, about which I was warned, there was a tiny - half-cm-circle - defect in paint (loss of polish) on one of the doors, on which I didn't pay attention as sensibly insufficient, but then I was claimed guilty when returning, and warned I'd have to cover it. All in all, this didn't make me happy.

My experience with budget was good, with one exception - how to contact them on the given phone numbers. There was no way to either email or send SMS either (both are easy solutions) - leaving phoning as the only medium of contact. I tried to several times to phone and gave up. Finally I used the emergency number to contact. This is not good as the emergency numbers should strictly be for emergency

Unclear regarding insurance purchased through booking agents regarding if it covered or not, also not the most pleasant reception from the staff. This lead to being on the safe side and purchasing an extra insurance that made the whole process and price being unsatisfactory.

My experience with this provider was very good, although we had to queue almost 1 hour but apparently it was due to our arrival date (January 02 at 11am). The staff was very pleasant and professional.We were fortunate to have a new vehicle with very few kilometers on the clock.

I am very disappointed in the service of Hertz Cape Town. Despite indicating I had taken full excess insurance coverage through CarRentals, the service person proceeded to do a very hard sell on their excess insurance by emphasising the risks in having the full cost of car replacement for theft or accidental damage charged directly to me while I claimed the refunds from the CarRentals Excess insurer. I also have Car Excess insurance cover in my travel insurance policy. Despite being told that I had full excess cover and insurance, I noted on my final rental invoice that it did not provide cover for tyre or glass damage. If this rental had occurred in Australia, I would be submitting a complaint to the Consumer Affairs Bureau which is currently monitoring rental car insurance issues very closely. Overall a distasteful affair I will not repeat.

How can I get a cheap car rental in Western Cape?

Avoid paying a fortune for a rental car by following our top tips:

  • Investigate as many different offers as possible (we make that chore as easy as pie!);
  • Register for our Price Drop Alert email service and immediately discover when prices fall for your next vacation destination;
  • Before you hop behind the wheel, take a look at both airport and non-airport pickup and drop-off outlets to make sure you're getting your hands on the best deal around;
  • You can often save yourself some dollars if your vacation plans are flexible. Play with different days and dates and find out what savings you can score;
  • Do what you can to keep the time of your pickup and drop-off the same. If you bring back your car later than you picked it up, you might have to pay for an entire extra day;
  • If you're in the mood to keep some extra cash in your pocket, pay as soon as you book and drive away with some of the best rates around;
  • The early bird catches the juiciest worm, and also the hottest deals! Book as soon as possible to drive off with some excellent savings.

What is the most popular rental car category in Western Cape?

From tablelands to beaches and mountains, Western Cape has some jaw-dropping natural areas. Why not head out and marvel at a handful of them? Leave town and plan some day trips. A full-size SUV is suited to those longer drives. Built to manage all sorts of terrain, these bigger vehicles make it a joy to get off the beaten path.

Should I get a luxury rental car in Western Cape?

You'll be glad to hear that there's a great range of both economy and luxury rental vehicles on offer in Western Cape. What you end up going for is largely dependent on how much you're willing to spend as well as what you plan to do. Prestige vehicles offer unparalleled comfort and class. If you're splashing out, why not pick an SUV with all the bells and whistles, or perhaps a cushy mid-sized sedan? Otherwise, if you just need something to get you from A to B at the cheapest price possible, we can help you out with a no-frills compact vehicle (or something else that's unlikely to break the bank).
