I was pleasantly surprised with my economy rental.

The car I thought I was renting was not available, but was offered my choice of 2 comparable vehicles. Since retiring I only rent cars occasionally. This provider was probably the best I've dealt with.

I rent cars 2-3 times a year and while I've heard horror stories I've never experienced one...until now. I pulled into the lot and saw no cars in the Hertz spaces. Remained calm...maybe it's waiting for me elsewhere. I went in to find 2 people hanging out in the office. I gave my info. At this point I was told that no cars were available. Any other place I would have just left. This time though I had to pay in advance. So I reminded the guy pretending to help me that I had a RESERVATION AND HAD PAID. He didn't seem to think this was an issue. The other guy (I later learned it was the manager Neal) tried saying the same thing and suggested that it was my responsibility to wait until someone decided to return a car. I became angry at which point the manager decided to get up and make an effort to find a car. Were they just hoping I wouldn't come in at the time that I paid for a car to be ready? I was told there was no telling when it would be ready but I would get the next available car. I rode the half hour back home to get stuff done before my trip and was phoned later to let me know they had a vehicle being cleaned and gassed for ME. I let them know I was in the middle of something and would get there as soon as I could. When I arrived....there was no car...seriously. I was told that at that point with no warning since they had sooo many customers without cars that it became first come first serve and that they gave it away. Eventually they found a car...supposedly a free upgrade. Nice to get 8 less miles to the gallon on a 1000 mile trip. Great upgrade. Bottom line this place is run by children with no ability to serve the public. One exception...The woman who helped me with the return was great. Thanks Hertz for the extra hour of driving, the feeling of total disregard, and the extra 25 gal of gas I had to buy. One word....MANAGEMENT
