Budget tried to up sell me to an SUV for $10 more per day and have key in hand to leave immediately. Normally I don't mind up sell but - after waiting 30 min for my reservation the agent called me over and gave me the same SUV for my reservation price. That was a bit frustrating - making it sound like they really are trying to maximize on my waiting. Second major issue is I had to stop at a car wash and clean the car. Clean windows to see. Very poor cleaning job. Dangerous to be driving with windows like that. Pricing I felt was in the ball park and expectations.

First of all, I travel a lot and rent many cars from different companies and I chose the one that is the best price. When I arrived at the Budget in Salt Lake City airport, the line was quite long compared to the other companies. After a long wait, I was told that the car I had reserved was not available and that my choices were a soft top Jeep or an upgraded SUV with more room. I first chose the SUV, until I found out that I would have to pay more. So I then chose the Jeep, which I was told later might or might not be automatic. I was confused as to why he didn't know?? He told me I would have to do all the paperwork, then walk out to the spot where the Jeep was, and if it wasn't an automatic, I would have to walk all the way back to the front desk to find another car?? I said that seemed ridiculous and why couldn't he see if it was automatic, but he said he couldn't leave desk. He wasn't very nice at all and didn't even tell me how to get to where the car was, but luckily I fly out of there a lot and had an idea of where to go. I was upset at that point and just decided to walk out to the spot that he wrote on the paper. When I arrived at the location, there was no Jeep or any car in the spot?? Luckily, I found a customer that had been helped in front of me, who was also not happy, and he told me to not go back inside, but instead go to the booth out in the lot (Fastbreak it think). I told the very nice lady the situation and she asked me first if I even knew how to drive a manual vehicle, as she knew it wasn't. I said I would prefer an automatic as that was what I booked and she very easily gave me the key to a great SUV with no additional charge. If it weren't for her, I would give Budget no stars!! I think that if rental car agencies are renting cars, then they should have plenty of them (which I know they had, but they were upgrades!!). Just a side note, my sister in law rented a Compact car from enterprise and when she arrived, they only had one vehicle left. It was a 15 passenger van and they gave her that with no extra charge!!! That is customer service!!
