The 15 passenger van was great for 10 persons, but the rear passenger side had some kind of problem with the tire. No one wanted to sit in the back after they sat back there. Also noticed there wasn’t any windshield washer fluid. Otherwise all was good.

My experience with the provider was ok. That the suburb want to sell insurance is normal. I said that I am fully covered by Car del Mar and do not need it. The provider said that in case of damage 2800 euros (for Renault Espace) would be deducted, which I think is really very high. But I told him again that I am covered by Germany. Otherwise, the car was new and in good condition. What I have to complain about is the return at Fiumincino airport. It is very confusing where to go and the signs are very bad. It took me 45 minutes to find a budget. That must be better if you just arrived you can miss the flight. You have to make this clear to the provider. There are several parking garages with different providers and if you go to the wrong parking garage it takes you to get out and you have to start looking again. ....... Very very complicated. ......... But by and large I would say ok.

Alamo was great. Didn't get high pressure from the agent to take insurance coverage which I don't need or want.

Booked station wagon (Opel Insignia) for pickup in Roma-Sardegna office. Showed agent 100% CDW/Loss coverage documents that had been prepaid, but she charged basic CDW/Loss anyway and we didn't notice so had to sort that out later which was a pain. Also, was given Toyota hybrid, which had less space for suitcases, BUT was great on gas, so it worked out. Car was marked as being full of gas, but it was really down about 1/8 of a tank. Return to Milan-Linate Airport was smooth. Overall, an acceptable rental, just not great.

We specifically asked to reserve, and payed for, an SUV or equivalent car with room for 6 baggage and 5 person. When we came on time to pick up the car from Rome's central Herz location we were greeted first with a cue of 45 minutes and than when our turn to get service from the counter finally arrived we were serviced by a very rude person who seemed to only be concerned with selling us extra insurance, wi-fi and GPS. After an hour and a half of wait and inadequate service he first gave us what we found out was a tiny car with room for 4 people and 1 baggage, I had to run 2 blocks back to the office, 5 minutes before closing time in scorching heat to inform him that he gave us the wrong car. First I was told there are no cars in the type I ordered, but luckily while waiting in the office someone returned a car that was closer to what we ordered, but still smaller. We had to take that car since there were no other vehicles available and the office was about to close. The car was not only smaller, but also very dirty, scratched and with half a tank of gas. We had to wait another 0.5 hour for the car to be cleaned (only from the outside), and drive it for 6 hours, while my 2 daughters are crammed with baggage and bags in the back for the whole time because the car was smaller. We arrived to our destination 3 hours late, and very dissatisfied. We tried to contact Herz from our location but costumer service did not help at all, and we spent the remaining of the trip with the car, filled with baggage in the back seat. I would not recommend anyone to use Herz ever, and will contact their costumer service again to try and get a refund.

Should I get a luxury rental car in Vatican City?

Sometimes the journey is more significant than the destination, which makes your car choice important. If you're about to head off on an unforgettable road trip around Vatican City, a spacious SUV could be the perfect solution. If you're hoping for the cheapest possible price and plan to stick to city driving, an economy car is a smart pick. All you need to do is decide what's going to be the best fit, throw your bags in the trunk, and clock up those miles.
