Where is Nicaragua?

Nicaragua is waiting. There's no end to the new adventures and experiences you'll be able to have once you climb into that rental car. To really get the most out of your trip, here's some basic info that everyone should know. Nicaragua is just one of the countries located in Mexico and Central America, a stretch of land that is always ready to exhilarate and delight. Its capital is Managua. Home to some of the country's most well-renowned sights, it's a terrific introduction to what this place is all about.

What are the best road trip destinations in Nicaragua?

With an abundance of beautiful highways and tempting open roads, many travelers opt to turn their Nicaragua vacations into driving journeys. If you're organizing a road trip to remember, you'll want to know which destinations to put on your bucket list. Get to know some (or all) of this place's most outstanding cities:

  • Managua (population of 973,100)
  • Leon (population of 144,500)
  • Chinandega (population of 126,400)
  • Matagalpa (population of 109,100)

How can I get a cheap car rental in Nicaragua?

Here are our top tips on how to hit the road with some extra cash in your wallet:

  • A car can take you anywhere — so can the web. Compare the cheapest deals from all the top companies in just a couple of clicks;
  • Subscribe to our Price Drop Alert service and immediately discover when prices become cheaper for your desired location;
  • Before you pick up your keys and hop behind the wheel, take a look at both airport and non-airport pickup and drop-off locations to ensure you're getting the best deal in town;
  • If you're not fussed about which day of the week you collect the keys to your car and your schedule is flexible, experiment with days and dates to find the best rates;
  • So you don't end up paying for an extra day or a late fee, try to keep your pickup and drop-off times the same;
  • If you're in the mood to save a few dollars, pay right away and bag some of the best rates around;
  • Don't let the deal you've been searching for slip through your fingers. Book as soon as possible and zoom off with your dream set of wheels.

What is the most popular rental car category in Nicaragua?

Sometimes it's best to think small, particularly if you'll be navigating the busy streets of Managua and Leon. Economy rental cars are the top pick for travelers in Nicaragua — and there's a whole lot to love about them. Easily zoom around town, get fabulous gas mileage, and most importantly, save on rental fees. These economical vehicles prove bigger isn't always better!

That said, Nicaragua boasts some incredible rivers, forests, and coastal plains. It'd be a shame not to leave the city to tour those jaw-dropping scenes. If that sounds like something you'd be into, consider booking a full-size car or an SUV. Even if you're not planning to go off-road, you'll appreciate the extra space.

Should I get a luxury rental car in Nicaragua?

You'll be pleased to hear that there's a great range of luxurious rental vehicles available in Nicaragua. What you end up going with depends on how much you want to spend as well as what you plan to do. Specialty vehicles are hard to beat if you're all about comfort and class. If you're splurging, why not book an SUV with all the bells and whistles, or perhaps a flashy mid-sized vehicle? Alternatively, if you just need something to zip around town in as economically as possible, stick with a no-frills compact vehicle (or something else that won't burn a hole in your pocket).
