RESERVED CAR WASN’T AVAILABLE UPON PICKUP:
I reserved the car online, when I showed up they said they didn’t have that car available. They couldn’t tell me when it would be available. I was given 3 choices:
- Wait indefinitely for a potential car of my choice to be returned by another renter
- Come back another day
- Take whatever car they had on the lot
I picked the last option because I needed the car to go to work.
BEWARE OF CRAZY TOLL TAG CHARGES:
My toll bill was $200 after 19 days of having the car. The car I chose had a toll tag service built in that I wasn’t aware of. Maybe I should have asked, or maybe they should have told me, but the service in the car charges $5/day just for using the tollway (not including the actual toll amounts everytime you pass a booth). I logged onto my own tollway account, in advance, to setup up for automatic deductions out of my existing account. Unbeknownst to me, the Toll service that’s built into the car would charge me money no matter if I want to use their service or not. So now I have a $200 bill that I can’t do anything about because it’s built into their hidden policy.
EMPLOYEE MIGHT HAVE STOLEN MY IDENTITY:
When I returned the car I accidentally left my wallet in the passenger seat. An employee from Hertz called to inform me that he had my wallet in his possession. I came to pick it up after work that day and thought that it was so nice of them to have kept my wallet safe. 2 weeks later I had fraudulent charges on my credit card, so I closed that card and got a new one. Then one week after that my ATM card magically had fraudulent charges on it as well. My ATM card never gets used. Not online, not at gas stations, and not even at ATMs. The only place it’s ever been was inside my wallet. So how did the card numbers fall into someone’s hands if I never use the card... ever?! It seemed like every card inside that wallet that was returned to me had been compromised, so I replaced all the cards with new ones out of precaution.
Hertz is truly poorly managed, unreliable and untrustworthy. I would never use Hertz again.
