Waited 45 minutes for car, should have been midsize SUV. Gave us compact SUV but offered to upgrade to standard SUV for “a little more” ( we did not). AFTER giving us rental charge amount and accepting our payment card and running it, as we were being given paper to sign, we were told there was $additional charge for using a debit card. We said, we prefer to use credit card and avoid “extra charges”. Customer service rep said couldn’t change it now, and that she had already run it. We politely suggested to her that she inform customers BEFORE running a card that there would be extra charges (almost $75). This was probably why it took so long for each customer, felt like we weren’t the first ones this had been pulled with. Will NEVER use Dollar again.

They nickel and dime you for everything! Dollar rental car is a ripoff. They have hidden fees they don’t tell you about. First, they say they have moved away from credit cards on their website. They have a section with Dave Ramsey that talks about how easy it is to use your debit card. Nowhere does it mention there is an additional fee for using a debit card. They do mention that they have a $200 incidental hold, but they don’t mention the daily fee they charge to use a debit card. Then they charge a road hazard fee. They will charge an additional fee for adding a driver. Another fee for being under 25. Then of course you have taxes and facility fees. The fees changed the cost of my rental from $18 a day to over $100 a day for an economy car. I was not told that there would be this great of a price change when I rented the car, or I would have canceled my reservation. They even tried to get me to upgrade “for only $60 more” over the course of two days. I highly recommend staying away from Dollar rental car! They are trying to get as much money out of you as possible!

We returned a car on 6/4/19 and when my wife asked about paperwork they said don’t worry about paperwork just give is the key so she gave them the key and they never provided paperwork showing that the car was returned by us. We flew home and thought nothing of it. Company called the next day and asked if we needed it another day. They said they did not receive paperwork from the person at the desk that we dropped the car off with. Thus they are claiming to have no record yet that they have the car in their possession! Has very serious and unsettling implications as they seem to claim that we possibly still have their car! Perhaps next they will claim we stuck the car in our luggage and took it back home on the airplane. Nice car but it was filthy on the exterior. Guy at the desk when we picked the car up was professional and kind. Person at the desk when we dropped it off not professional. They need to provide paperwork showing when vehicles are returned. Staff could easily steal a car and claim you have the car!
