My experience was a nightmare. After traveling for more than 14 hours to get to Munich, Germany. I was presented with a charge more than $1000 over the Car Rentals price I was quoted on line. First the Thrifty counter was closed with a message to go to the Hertz counter. Hertz explained to me their was a mandatory purchase of insurance added to the price that added about $1000 to the price of a $500 rental, this did not include the $500 deposit. I ended up with a $2100 charge on my credit card for a $500 rental. It was late and some counters were closed down, I went to the ones that were open and their prices were no better. It was late and I was tired so I paid it. When I returned to car the return inspector found a nick on the wheel that was barely visible, I did not hit any curbs and did not even parallel park anywhere, I expect to do battle to get my deposit back.

We waited for over 2 hours at the Hertz counter (although we had a reservation with Thrifty) for our turn at the pick up counter. When it was our turn, the car assigned us wasn't valid in a couple of countries we were visiting so they had to find a different car. Then he told us that the insurance we had prepurchased wasn't valid with them and we had to purchase new insurance. Once we got the car everything else went smoothly. I emailed to the support team about the insurance twice and have had no response.
