Hey, we heard you were hungry, so as part of our All-American series, we put together a list of the eight best foodie towns in America. You can’t complete a country-wide road trip without eating, right? Get ready to enjoy the best food in the U.S.A.

8. Baton Rouge, Louisiana

People get lost in the food culture of New Orleans and for good reason. But a mere 81 miles east in Baton Rouge, there’s a culinary scene that rivals whatever is going down in “Big Easy” kitchens. The chefs at Parrain’s Seafood make melt-in-your-mouth chargrilled oysters the size of a child’s fist and their crawfish étouffée is so good, we’d need a million words to describe it. For breaky and brunch, check out Magpie Café and Cocha. Both deserving titles of the best brunch experience in the city.

7. Lexington, Kentucky

It’s true this city—and the entire state—is known for their bourbon production. Not just for the amount, but the high-quality of it. However, Lexington has fast become the foodie center of the “Bluegrass State.” For example, take Honeywood Restaurant, which has turned regular meals on their head. Order the country ham benedict and you’ll know what we’re talking about. Lunch at Dudley’s On Short and a plate of Kentucky fried chicken for dinner at The Merrick Inn should round out your day of gorging.

Your first thought about West Virginia probably has something to do with coal or rockets or the movie “October Sky” that deals with both. But would you believe that the capital city serves up some of the best food in all of Appalachia? A rack of ribs from Dem 2 Brothers and A Grill not only holds a candle next to anything BBQ places in Kansas City and Memphis offer, but they extinguish the flame on most. For something a little more West Virginian, the gigantic plate of homemade biscuits at the Bluegrass Kitchen will put you into a food coma.

Welcome to da Island. Hawaii has perfect surf. Perfect hula dancers. And perfect food. Everything from fresh seafood and Japanese-inspired dishes to plate lunches will delight your taste buds. Here’s your meal plan: grass-fed beef loco-moco from da Cove Health Bar and Café. Then for lunch, a big, beautiful plate lunch of Kailua pork with a side of rice and poi from Haili’s Hawaiian Foods. For your in-between-lunch-and-dinner snack, head to Ono Seafood for a small poke and seaweed salad bowl. Finally, for dinner, head to Helena’s Hawaiian Food and order all the pipikaula short ribs, fried butterfish, and haupia you desire.

East Coast foodies rejoice! You don’t need to break the bank in New York or Boston anymore. Welcome to New Haven, Connecticut! This town on the northern shore of Long Island Sound is home to Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, the place we’re claiming has the best pizza in the state. Seriously, order the margherita and try to argue with us. You know what else New Haven is known for? A place called Louis’ Lunch that claims to be the first restaurant to serve hamburgers. But if you do feel like spending a few dollars, get a reservation at ZINC New Haven, one of the best restaurants in New Haven.

Nothing says you’re a foodie like taking a guided food tour. With a Scottsdale Trolley Food Tour, you’ll stop by six different joints, stuffing yourself silly with handmade guacamole, freshly baked cakes and pastries, something called a pasty, and other great goods. Plus, you’re riding around on an old-school trolley. There’s also fancy and tasty options at FnB (guinea hen & pork terrine) and Postino (bruschetta and a butcher’s block meat and cheese board). Oh, Scottsdale, it was love at first bite.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are a gold mine of cool stuff and places, like the budding culinary capital of North Carolina. Restaurants like Tupelo Honey Café are churning out Southern classics like blackened catfish with a flare. And speaking of flare, Nine Mile decided to skip American fare and whip up incredible dishes from the Caribbean (get the jerk chicken). But don’t think this town has turned its back what North Carolina is most famous for: BBQ. The chopped brisket and pulled pork from 12 Bones Smokehouse taste like they came from heaven.

There’s something about Southern cities and making fabulous food, and Birmingham is no exception. There’s everything from fancy-pants places to street food market stalls. Let’s start with the fancy, shall we? Café Dupont is where you’ll find things like cast iron seared foie gras and stuffed Duroc pork shoulder. When you need a mid-day snack that’s not too heavy or light, make your way through the Market at Pepper Place. A nice grits bowl should hold you over until dinner time. For dinner? Anything from SAW’s Soul Kitchen will make you very happy.

We’d like to tell you more about the best food vacation destinations, but we’re way too hungry to continue and you probably are, too. So, enjoy tasting your way through these awesome places.
