In this day and age, hybrid cars are all the rage. They’re quiet. They get something like 1,000 miles to the gallon on the highways. They make you look green. That’s all fine and dandy, but we think you should get behind the wheel of something that’s more of a tank than an RC car. Follow along below and we’ll let you know about the best places to cruise in SUVs.

Portland, OR

Portland, Oregon. “The City of Roses.” “Stumptown”. Whatever you want to call it, we’d be nuts not to label this town as one of the best cities to drive an SUV in. Why? Because this place oozes nature and you’ll want a vehicle that can handle it. Especially when you’re cruising along the Mt. Hood Scenic Byway. Snake your way from downtown Portland through the pine forests of the foothills and up the snowy slopes of the dormant volcano.

Salt Lake City, UT

The capital of the great state of Utah is where you’re heading next. This place is surrounded by natural wonders and outdoor activities for you to indulge in. Take your rig and drive through Big Cottonwood Canyon. You’ll be mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the Wasatch Range. It’s only 19 miles from downtown so a quick day trip is totally possible. Pull off the main road and enjoy a delicious picnic by one of the mountain streams.

Denver, CO

Only one state over is Colorado and in the middle of it is a city that sits a mile high. In almost every direction there’s adventurous activities. One must-do is the Mt. Evans Scenic Byway, 60 miles from the city center. This is the highest paved road in North America and if you don’t believe us, just wait until you come around the bend above Summit Lake. The view makes it seem like you’re peering out the window of the space station.

Leave the Prius at Home
