I was two hours late to pick my car up and the place canceled the contract and gave the car away. So after 1 1/2 hours at the rental I ended up having to pay 1000 for 5 days for a sedan.

Well, I had tried to pick up my car on 12/28 as scheduled at 9:30pm at CUN, and not only did the Payless representative who we checked in with and was supposed to take us via shuttle to the Payless rental desk literally disappear on us, they ran out of cars and no one even informed us. We waited and waited to end up stranded at CUN airport at midnight with no cars available and not even any shuttles or taxis available. The other car rental companies were scrounging around for cars and quoting us $100+ per day IF they even had cars available, but even they had nothing except vans/suvs for over $250 per day. I called the Cancun Payless location and no one would pick up. I called carrentals.com, but on a Saturday evening there was obviously no one available until the next day. 24/7 support would has been extremely helpful. We eventually ended up finding one taxi that took us to our destination for $200USD which was more than the total price of our rental and insurance for 6 days. If I had known this could’ve been the case in Mexico I would have called to confirm in advance. I understand that this is the high season for holiday travel, but this was unacceptable and a terrible way to start our vacation. I would suggest confirming prices and availability with the Mexican branches of these big car rental companies as this was a big inconvenience and we ending up spending much more than we had budgeted for taxis to get around. - Renée
