We rented a Ford Mustang convertible in Fort Lauderdale. When we arrived after our late flight, we were told they were unsure if they had this type of car for us. Since that is what we paid for and what we wanted, we made that clear. They responded with they were cleaning a car and would “rush it out to us”. After about a 20 minute wait despite the fact that our reservation time had us arriving earlier, they brought out a car. The outside appeared clean but the interior cleaning had obviously been rushed. The interior seats smelled like cigarette smoke and there were what appeared to be ash marks on the black seats. Since one of us is a smoker, it was late, and we had already waited awhile at that point, we decided to just go with it. The car ran fine, but after two days of traveling around we discovered 2 crushed beer cans and a full rolled joint under the drivers seat. So basically we were driving around Florida for two days with illegal drugs in the car, which is a huge liability and risk to us! When we returned the car at the airport days later, we were charged a $150 cleaning fee for the mess that the previous renters left. We explained the whole situation and reiterated the fact that we had never smoked inside the vehicle but were charged the fee anyway. I tried to dispute it with the manager but was told she “was done with the conversation”. This is absolutely unacceptable as the car was not given to us in proper condition and what’s more, bad service put us at major risk. We currently have a case open with National and I am curious to see how they respond to this serious matter.

I landed at the airport, and needed a car in a matter of minutes. I searched online at 3am for an affordable company. National was it. I booked online and visited the counter. The agent Beverly was professional and the process was pain-free. When we went to locate the car, the agent in the garage told us that only pick-up trucks were available. We were okay with that, especially since it could be viewed as an upgrade. The issue is that all drivers are not comfortable with bigger vehicles, and it may not have been such a pleasant experience. We would have preferred being told at the counter.
