We had a very detailed person help us at the check out counter. They upgraded us to a diesel suv because they had no automatics there. It seems there are very few automatics in the country so if driving a manual is a problem, this should be considered despite the promise in your rental. Even though we had a quote for the price of the rental with full coverage and taxes included, we had to pay an extra $120 due to the fact we picked up at Quito, Ecuador and dropped off at Guayaquil, Ecuador airport. This was in the contract but they told us it wasn’t a part of price quote. It would be good to have all your figures before agreeing to the rental. Also keep your contract with you as the local company has a limit as to how many miles you can have per day without an extra charge. Our contract said unlimited which they honored. Despite these issues we were very happy with the company and the rental. It handled very well in the country and city driving. Very comfortable. Just the two factors of not being given the automatic we were promised and the extra charge not put into the original quote made us a little concerned. Overall it was a great vehicle to have.

They are crooks. Did not honor carrentals insurance. Made me buy their own insurance. Refused to rent the car without it. CROOKS. Do not ever rent from them again!

What you need to know before you go

How do I get a Quito Hertz car rental at a great rate?

CarRentals.com always tries to get you the best rates, no matter when you reserve your car. However, booking your car ahead of time can help keep spending low. Be sure to read the mileage policy and don't add an extra driver to avoid any surprise fees.

What should I carry with me when I get my car rental in Quito?

You will need to present your driver's permit and a credit card in your name.

What's Quito's minimum age to rent a car?

Hertz's minimum age to rent a car in Quito is 19. Make sure to check Hertz's policies, as there may be limitations if you are under 25 in most cases or for higher category rentals especially.

Is there a particular vehicle I should get for my trip to Quito?

That depends on how many people you are traveling with and what activities you want to do in Quito. Compact or economy cars are easier to park and good for short commutes. If you are traveling with family or friends, then a sedan or SUV will have enough room for all of you and provide a more comfortable ride on longer commutes. Those looking for a dash of luxury on their trip can choose a higher-end category like an Audi A4 or Cadillac XTS or similar.

Does Ecuador require car insurance?

In Ecuador you do need to have insurance before you rent from Hertz. Many major credit cards (American Express, Visa, MasterCard and Discover) generally provide some coverage. But many of them have limitations, such as not covering large vehicles, like premium models or some SUVs. It is best to call and find out exactly what your credit card will cover and how much before you head to . Additionally, as a United States citizen, you can also book Collision Damage Coverage with CarRentals.com at checkout.

Does Hertz require a deposit at the time of booking my rental car?

Hertz does require a deposit when you reserve your rental. Hertz will block the deposit on your credit once you reserve your rental for your trip to Quito. Please be aware that the deposit may vary greatly depending on the make and model of the rental.

Do I have to full up the tank before I take my car back to Hertz?

We encourage a full tank policy. You pick up your Hertz rental topped off. If you return the rental with less than the amount it was given to you, most companies will charge a premium, and sometimes up to triple the amount of current gas prices to refill it. If you want to save some money, it is best to fill up your tank before you bring it back to Hertz.

Do I need unlimited miles when I drive in Quito?

Quito definitely has its charms, but you may want to hit the road again after you've checked off all the activities in Quito.

Does Hertz offer one-way rentals in Quito?

Hertz usually offers one-way rentals. You may find it easier to drop off your rental car at a different Hertz. Don't forget there is typically an additional charge when you pick one-way.

Reserve your ride today!

With so much to do and see in Quito, having your own set of wheels lets you explore at your own pace. When you're ready to explore more of Ecuador, you can go when you want to, without having to spend time waiting for the bus or wave down a cab.

Before you head out of town, book your Hertz Quito rental car and zip off to take in all the must-do activities. Reserve through CarRentals.com and hit the road in Quito, Ecuador.
