Fox refused to give us the car because I have a Swiss driver's license, but a U.S. passport. This policy, if it exists anywhere outside the undertrained attendant's head, means that anyone who resides outside their home country will be turned down flat due to lack of documentation. No, I cannot magic up a Swiss passport because I'm a U.S. citizen, and no, I cannot magic up a U.S. driver's licence because I live abroad! No car for you, sorry-not-sorry that you and your kids are stranded, and no refund because you don't have the correct documentation. (Note: the website says nothing about this supposed policy.) CarRentals.com went to bat for me and it looks like I'll get my money back, but I had to scramble for a rental at a different company on a holiday weekend without a reservation, which ended up costing more than twice the original price. Fox's rates are low, but beware.

The agent told me that I would be charged $35 every time I crossed the Golden Gate Bridge if I didn’t pay the daily fee offered by the rental car company. This sounded ridiculous, so I questioned him several times and he said it was something new that had just gone into effect. I was exhausted from travel and had my tired kids in tow, so I agreed. However, the next day I called FasTrak and they confirmed that the agent had lied. I waited for more than 30 min on hold with Fox (and eventually was allowed to get in line electronically for a call back- hours later) to cancel the charge. This is a terrible practice and I will never use Fox again.

No long line at pickup. No overly aggressive pressure to buy needless (for me) insurance. Car was in good shape. A bit of trash on the floor, but that's Fox. Easy and fast return. I try to avoid Fox because the cost savings are usually not worth the long lines and hassles. This time everything was as smooth as it could be. One time fluke, or is this the new Fox Rent A Car?
