I was surprised to be told when picking up the car that I was required to buy additional insurance (despite the fact that I have private cover for car rentals so that I do not need to buy additional insurance). I received different explanations from two different staff members for this requirement, which seemed to contradict the Enterprise UK website. One staff member explained that too many customers end up damaging the cars and then have insufficient funds available to cover the cost, so I would not be permitted to forgo additional insurance and assume the risk (which is what I wanted to do, with that risk mitigated by my private cover). But another staff member told me, when I returned the car, that I had simply been required to purchase the compulsory minimum insurance, which for some reason had not been included in the base rate that was quoted on this website. That might explain why the rate was, indeed, better than comparable offers from the same location, but does not match the explanation I was given at pick-up. Otherwise, my experience was fine, although I ended up with a vehicle that I did not care for (Nissan Juke).
