We booked our car on carrentals.com just as we have done at least a dozen times in countries all over the world. When I booked I was quoted 297USD for the week. There was no other mandatory charges associated with the rental. However upon arrival in Mexico the agent at the counter insisted that we were required to purchase Mexican liability insurance. I assured him we had premium rental car coverage through our American Express platinum business card, but apparently that was not acceptable. We were told that we would not be allowed to rent the car unless we agreed to the extra charges. 470USD later we were given a car that was so beat up that the entire check out sheet was littered with marks. The windshield washers didn't work and the wiper blades looked like a serrated steak knife. It got us where we needed to go but we feel like they took advantage of the gringo tourists because they could and we really didn't have any choice. It sure would be nice if you go complete a trip in Mexico without feeling like you were scammed.

My experience was terrible. Charged for insurance not required.

I HAD ONE OF THE WORSE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD PICKING UP A RENTAL VEHICLE WITH BUDGET. I WAS TOLD I COULD NOT USE MY AMERICAN INSURANCE AT THIS LOCATION. WILL NOT USE AGAIN.
