My frustration started when i had to be refunded my deposit. i was sent from pillar to post and the experience was horrible. If you do save you telephone conversations please listen to them to hear my frustration. i dont have the love to break it down, it was daunting.

Avis at JNB would not honor my confirmed reservation. I was told if I wanted the car class I reserved that it would cost an additional $400. They refused to get a manager stating they were in meetings all day (typical Avis South Africa tactic). I was also told I had 35,000 Rand ($2,472) damage coverage at pick-up. A rock hit and cracked the windshield. When I returned the vehicle, I was then told the “insurance only covered liability, not damage” (another Avis South Africa tactic), Avis also refused to give me even an estimate on the cost of the windshield replacement. I am now in the 3-6 month waiting period to see what additional frivolous invoices I will receive from Avis. I would not recommend renting from Avis SA to my worst enemy.

We took delivery of our car in Johannesburg and returned it to Durban. A little queue, but pretty quick formalities. Simply, we would like to have the detail of the additional costs which we were charged! We knew some of them (authorization for Swaziland, and toll fees) but that does not quite correspond! A little more transparency would be desirable.
