There’s no better way to explore “The Valley of the Sun” than with a car. The capital city of Arizona is set amidst some of the country’s most beautiful desert, and you won’t see all of it by depending on public transportation or taxis. Next time you fly into town, pick up a cheap Phoenix airport car rental and visit the state in style.…
Arriving at Sky Harbor
Once you arrive at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX), you’ll pick up your car rental at the Rental Car Center. Make your way outside your terminal and catch the Rental Car Shuttle, which stops every 5 to 10 minutes in front of each terminal. The Rental Car Center is just over a mile west of the airport. From there, downtown Phoenix is only a few miles east. Alternatively, some car rental companies may be located off-site and will require you to make additional arrangements.
Out & About in Phoenix
Phoenix is host to a variety of charms. Just north of the airport, you’ll find Pueblo Grande Museum & Archeological Park, which is set over an ancient Hohokam village, where you can visit galleries, study artifacts, and learn about archaeology. Afterward, drive 13 miles southwest along E. Baseline Road to South Mountain Park. This vast desert landscape is the largest municipal park in the country, and its 16,000 acres are full of hiking, riding, and biking opportunities. You can also drive some 1,000 feet up to its lookout point and gaze over Phoenix.
A Phoenix Sky Harbor car rental means you can see more than just Phoenix. Head about 12 miles east to Scottsdale for a tour of the McCormick Railroad Park or to do some shopping at Scottsdale Fashion Square. If you’re up for a road trip, the city of Tucson is 116 miles southeast of Phoenix. Here you can tour the University of Arizona campus, or wander through immense aircraft at the Pima Air & Space Museum.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) serves almost two dozen airlines, among them British Airways and Southwest. When it’s time to head home, return your Phoenix Sky Harbor rental car to the Rental Car Center. The shuttle will take you back to Terminal 2, 3, or 4, as Terminal 1 has been retired. Once you’re inside, make your way to your gate where you can use the free Wi-Fi available in all terminals.
Relaxing in Sky Harbor
If checking out Sky Harbor’s burgeoning art collection doesn’t strike your fancy, then head for one of the eateries for a bite to eat. From fast food over tacos to coffee, you’re bound to find something to satiate your stomach until you board your flight. You may also wish to pick up a magazine or some snacks at the sundry shop.
