Get ready for fun in the sun in The Crossroads of the Pacific. Oahu has long been a hot destination for vacationers and business travelers, but it’s too big to see on foot or via public transportation. See every inch of Hawaii’s capital—and everything around it—in style when you obtain a cheap Honolulu airport car rental.…
Pick Up Your Car
The on-airport car rental companies are located across the street from the main terminal. You can either cross the street on foot or ride the shuttle to your lot. The shuttle stops at various points on the center median as it makes its way to several car rental companies on the airport property. Additional car rental companies are located off-airport, and may provide transportation to their location. We recommend you check with your preferred rental car provider for details. Bypass waiting in line by reserving your car rental ahead of time; once you have the keys to your car rental in your hand, you’ll only be 6 miles from Honolulu.
Things to Do in Honolulu
One of Hawaii’s most famous landmarks, Pearl Harbor, is located 20 miles west of Honolulu International Airport (HNL) if you take Interstate H1. Here, you’ll find the U.S.S. Arizona memorial, along with the retired battleship U.S.S. Missouri standing watch over the wreck. You’ll also want to catch some waves while you’re in town, so head for Waikiki, located about 10 miles from HNL. Waikiki is an oceanfront neighborhood known for its beautiful views, warm water, and surfing opportunities.
Your HNL car rental means you aren’t just limited to exploring Honolulu. From the city, head onto Pali Highway and drive east, into the Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve. Here you will pass through the Ko’olau Mountain Range and look over the Windward Coast from the Nu’uanu Pali State Wayside viewpoint. Keep rolling along Pali Highway and you’ll find Kailua, a quiet beachfront town just 12 miles away from Honolulu. Watch the tide come in, enjoy a meal at one of the local eateries, and breathe the sweet tropical air.
Return Your Car & Relax in the Airport
When you’re ready to return home, drop off your car rental at the rental car lot and board the shuttle, which will stop at each of the HNL’s three terminals. Alternatively, forego the shuttle ride and cross the street to your terminal. If you rented a car from an off-airport agency, you may need to make other arrangements to return to the terminals. The airport was originally named after John Rodgers, an aviator who became the second American naval officer to fly a plane. By the 1950s, the airport was operating under its current moniker.
Relax in your terminal by doing some shopping and dining. Browse the designer shops to make use of any spending money you have left over, or find that perfect Hawaiian souvenir for your friends back home. Should you get hungry, you’ll find numerous snack bars, sit-down restaurants, and cafes to help keep your appetite in check.
