On your next visit to the Peach State, make a point of exploring its capital city of Atlanta. “The City in a Forest” has much to offer the discerning visitor, and you can see it all with a cheap Atlantic airport car rental.…
Reaching Atlanta, GA
Once you land at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), retrieve your luggage at the baggage claim and follow the signage to the west end of the terminal. Exit and take the escalator up to the Airtrain station and board the ATL SkyTrain. It will take you to the Hartsfield-Jackson Rental Car Center in about 5 minutes, and it runs continuously. Reserve your car rental ahead of time to avoid waiting in line; once you’re behind the wheel of your rental car, you can drive to Atlanta proper, which is only 7 miles north of ATL. Please note, some car rental companies may be located further away from the Car Rental Center; these rental car providers may require you make arrangements for shuttles to bring you to their location.
Out and About
Among the many attractions in Atlanta is the High Museum of Art, which holds more than 14,000 works of art. The pieces range from sculptures and traditional paintings to more modern digital work. Following that, pay a visit to the Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum, about 5 miles south if you take Juniper St. Listen to historians give talks, marvel at a preserved steam locomotive, and get a glimpse of the largest oil painting in the world.
Your Atlanta airport rental car is a necessity if you want to see anything outside the city. Twenty miles north of the city is Marietta, GA, where you can visit Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, the preserved site of a Civil War battle. Trying to escape the heat? Enjoy the watersports at Six Flags® White Water, located just over 10 miles east of downtown Atlanta.
Returning Your Rental Car
Return your rental car to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Rental Car Center on Rental Car Center Parkway. Once you’ve relinquished the keys, take the approximately 5-minute ride aboard the ATL SkyTrain to the airport station. ATL began life as Candler Field in 1926 over the bones of an old car racetrack, the Atlanta Speedway. Today, ATL has two terminals and hosts Delta Airlines, Spirit, and many others.
Relax Before You Fly
While you’re waiting for your flight, sit back and enjoy some Southern hospitality. Grab a sandwich to go, or enjoy a full meal at a sit-down restaurant. Purchase some candy or some reading material at one of the kiosks, or just settle down with a hot cup of coffee before you board.
